CAAN and the AHA Centre present Wise Practices and Skills Building Gathering

via CAAN

The next Wise Practices and Skills Building Gathering is May 18-20, 2022. Abstract deadline is February 14, 2022.

The Wise Practices Gathering is hosted by CAAN and the AHA Centre in support of Community-Based HIV Research (CBR) by and with First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples in Canada.

The very first Gathering was held in Vancouver, BC in 2006 to champion the voices of IPHAs, to increase knowledge of, and capacity to do CBR in Indigenous communities, and to support Indigenous and allied researchers and students who engage in HIV and AIDS CBR. Over the years, we have seen our community grow as more and more IPHAs move from being research participants to becoming a member of a research team who contributes to a research project from beginning to end—through design, data collection, analysis, and Knowledge Translation processes. Since 2006, we have also seen many Indigenous students graduate with Bachelors and Masters degrees and move on to med school and PhD programs.

If you’ve attended a Wise Practices Gathering in the past, you will know how meaningful these events are to our community. Wise Practises provides opportunities to share our research with our communities, to learn about new and exciting Indigenous research practices and methodologies and meet each other, and so much more! As a past participant once said, attending a Wise Practices gathering is just different from any other conference—it’s like coming home.
