Job Posting: Research Assistant for Our _ Community Health Initiative

Our _ Community Health Initiative (O_CHI): O_CHI is a multi-year, BC-wide Community-Based Participatory Research Project that is investigating what systemic change would be for the T2NBY (Trans, Two-Spirit, and Non-Binary) Community. O_CHI is a mixed methodology research project that establishes ongoing community resources to accomplish its objectives, while maintaining a commitment to equitable access by the Indigenous community. O_CHI views systemic change through a strengths based lens that sees a world where the T2NBY community is a respected, vital and important member of society. O_CHI is a partnership between the Rainbow Health Cooperative, the University of Victoria and the Victoria Native Friendship Centre. Together, we engage in Community-Based Participatory Research to develop new training, workshops, community events, and wellness services. O_CHI is funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research and Vancouver Foundation.

Reporting to Dr. Nathan Lachowsky, the RA provides research-related support for numerous activities under development and being implemented for O_CHI. As an Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health and Social Policy and Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar at the University of Victoria, Dr. Lachowsky has a vibrant and dynamic program of research focused on community-based health equity research. You would join the team, which focuses on empowerment of and social justice for marginalized communities such as LGBTQ2+ people, Indigenous and ethnoracialized minorities, and those living with and affected by HIV, Hep C, and STIs. We’re looking to support enthusiastic folks from the diverse communities that we work with. We believe that no research about these communities should be developed without the communities in question being involved every step of the way. “Nothing about us, without us”.
