World AIDS Day social media campaign on HIV and older adults

Please join the National Coordinating Committee on HIV and Aging’s (NCC) third annual World AIDS Day social media campaign on HIV and older adults!  Our goal is to raise awareness of the experiences, needs, assets and care preferences of aging and older adults living with and vulnerable to HIV in Canada. We have prepared a scheduled collection of messages and images you can share on your social media feeds.  The campaign begins Monday November 27th and continues through Friday December 1st, World AIDS Day.

Purpose:

This is the National Coordinating Committee on HIV and Aging’s third annual World AIDS Day social media campaign on HIV and older adults.  Our goal is to raise awareness of the experiences, needs, assets and care preferences of aging and older adults living with and vulnerable to HIV in Canada.

The idea behind a coordinated social media campaign is to maximize the reach of our messages.  If many people and organizations post these messages on the same day, at approximately the same time, we increase the chance that more people will see at least one of our posts.

Get involved!

Each set of messages in the campaign material (organized by theme) is linked to a specific date beginning on Monday November 27th and continuing for five days until World AIDS Day on Friday December 1st. Each individual message is linked to a specific time of day.

Each day, cut and paste the corresponding messages to your personal and/or organizational (seek permission from leadership, of course!) Twitter and Facebook accounts at approximately the pre-determined time in your local time zone.

There are 3 to 4 messages to share each day. Did you know you can make your life easier by pre-scheduling your Tweets?  There are free online programs that allow you to do this (twuffer.com) – and the best part is that you can do it from the ‘big screen’ of your computer where you can cut and paste easily, instead of from your smart phone.

If you are not able to post the message at the specified time, you can always “like” or retweet the message from someone else’s feed when you come across it online!

The whole campaign is available for download in English and French. Please share it with your friends, and with the person responsible for posting to your organization’s social media accounts!
