BC Centre on Substance Use Seeks Study Participants

The BCCSU is looking to recruit participants for a research study titled “The impact of safer supply interventions on HIV treatment and care among people living with HIV who use drugs. The purpose of this study is to understand how engagement with safer-supply oriented programs impacts the lives of people living with HIV.

Eligibility: We are looking for people who are 19 or older, living with HIV, and accessing a safer supply-oriented program – this refers to people who accessing a service where they are being prescribed a pharmaceutical alternative to street drugs (hydromorphone tablets, fentanyl pill or patch, diacetylmorphine, etc.) through a doctor, clinic, or other harm reduction service.

What’s involved: participating in the study will include two in depth interviews, conducted one year apart, that last anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes each. Participants have the option of doing interviews over the phone or in person at the BCCSU field research office in Downtown Vancouver. Participants will be offered a $40 stipend at the end of each interview in cash or through direct deposit. A small subset of participants will be asked to participate in ethnographic outings. These outings typically involve spending ~2 hours with participants to understand their living environment, relationships, daily routines, and interactions with health and social services through observation and unstructured conversations.
