Job Summary:

The Project/Peer Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Coalition of Substance Users (CSUN) with the day-to-day operations, future planning, harm reduction, and health system change. Past or present lived experience of substance use (peer) is an asset but not a requirement. We are looking for an individual who has strong public relations skills, this role promotes and facilitates meaningful engagement with peers and partner organizations following Peer Engagement Principles and Best Practices Guidelines.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Support the day-to-day operations of the Quesnel based non profit: Coalition of Substance Users of the North (CSUN)

2. Team leadership/mentorship skills of a unique population of people with lived and living experiences with substance use and or cross-sectional mental health challenges.

3. Work with our non-profit board structure to support the organization and ensure we adhere to all BC Societies Act rules and complete all submissions required.

4. Working in partnership with community members, drug user organizations, indigenous communities, members of regional and provincial health programs/services and external community partners to contribute to long-term, sustainable service improvements through capacity building for peer inclusion and engagement.

5. Work to assist with identify learning needs/opportunities with respect to peer engagement and assist with developing and delivering training/capacity building to support these needs.

6. Assist with developing and coordinating peer engagement committees/networks. Communicate peer input to inform policy, communications, organizational change and standards. Prepares documents, letters, and informs reports, etc. utilizing word processing, email, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint. Performs other related duties as assigned.

7. Assist with administration and organizational needs.

 

Qualifications:

Education, Training, and Experience:

• Two (2) years’ recent, related experience working/volunteering with and/or mentoring peers in urban and/or rural, isolated, and remote communities (including Indigenous communities).
• Experience working with peers in community and providing health promotion and harm reduction activities in relation to substance use
• Criminal record check: All applicants with concerns about criminal records will receive the care and support they need to continue the application process. Having a criminal record may not exclude you from being hired for long term or ongoing employment with CSUN.
• CSUN Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check. A person whose criminal record suggests they present a risk of physical or sexual abuse to children or a risk of physical, sexual or financial abuse to vulnerable adults may have further barriers to employment.
• Valid BC Driver’s License is required

• Knowledge of peer-driven initiatives and interventions.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated facilitation, leadership, public speaking, circle sharing, and conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrates a fitness for duty approach to employment if using substances (use of substances to be well during work time is permitted but not high).
• Ability to reflect on the way their lived experiences influences their work.

• Ability to maintain a self care regimen with support systems

This position is 20-25 hours per week @$25.00 per hr. weekly cash honoraria.
