Position: Research Trainee, Making it Work Study
Status: Part time –15 hours/week (0.4 FTE)
Time Period: October 1st, 2022 – March 31st, 2023 (with possibility of extension)
Remuneration: $9,750 over the 6-month contract ($25/hour)

About the Making It Work Project
Making it Work is an Indigenous focused community-based research (CBR) study that is looking at what services work well for people living with HIV, hepatitis C, and/or challenges with mental health and/or substance use. This project is looking to understand why, when, how and for whom, certain services work.
Making it Work is looking to understand how programs and services using an Indigenous service delivery model are linked to improve outcomes for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous clients. The community-based research team will work in partnership with local communities and community-based organizations, including our case study organizations in Prince George, Smithers, Victoria and Vancouver to find ways to decolonize our research process and work on a foundation of Indigenous ways of knowing and doing, two-eyed seeing, and cultural safety. We are nearing the end of this project with one final round of data collection, a survey, scheduled for the fall and then moving into knowledge mobilization and wrap-up work for the study team. There may be some opportunity for the Trainee to travel to our community case study sites (travel expenses will be covered/reimbursed). The Trainee will work alongside a team of Peer Research Associates who will be supporting data collection over the fall.

Research Trainee Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Trainee position will provide research assistance to the Making it Work Research Managers, PAN’s Director of Evaluation and Research and the CBR study team.
What you will be doing:
• Work closely with the Making it Work leadership team on the preparation of data collection tools, conduct data collection, and contribute to data analysis
• Conduct literature and data gathering
• Participate in the development of a Knowledge Mobilization plan which may include writing reports and publications
• Assist the Making it Work leadership team and case study sites with research and outreach work as needed
• Support the Making it Work Peer Research Associate (PRA) team
• Attend weekly and monthly videoconference meetings as required
• Other duties and special projects identified that reflect both organizational need as well as employee interest
What you will bring:
• Currently enrolled as a post-secondary student in a relevant discipline
• Knowledge of the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada and the impacts of colonization; experience working with Indigenous communities in a culturally safe way
• Experience and/or training in quantitative and qualitative research methods
• Experience or ability to work effectively in virtual environments is necessary (i.e. proficiency with email and ZOOM, web-based collaboration, video conferencing tools, etc.)
• Familiarity with academic and/or policy literature relevant to this topic
• Familiarity with community-based research and participatory evaluation methods
• Experience or interest working collaboratively with Peer Research Associates and community members
• Strong writing skills in synthesizing complex ideas and translating academic concepts for a wider audience
• Able to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks effectively with a strong attention to detail
• Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 required (we will consider applications from candidates who have a medical exemption)
