Over 7,000 people have died of an overdose in British Columbia in the past 5 years, with more than 1,500 people dying to date in 2021.
Many gaps remain in preventing and responding to overdoses.
One of these gaps is the uptake and implementation of overdose prevention best practices in washrooms located in both the public and private sectors.
There are ways of making washrooms safer, but it can be challenging to know how. Best practices have been developed in the past few years, but they are not widely known.
In the next few months, a team of harm reduction advocates will be developing a campaign to share this information more broadly and improve washroom safety across the province.
To help us get started, we are consulting a range of organizations and groups using a short anonymous online form. The information collected here will help us design the campaign.
