Position:            Research Coordinator – HEADS UP! 2: A CBR study to improve cognitive health services for people living with HIV

Period:               Up to 3 years (starting June/July 2019)

Status:               0.6 FTE (3 days/week)

 

STUDY SUMMARY

 

HEADS UP! 2 is a community-based research (CBR) study with the aim of collaboratively developing tools to support diverse people living with HIV, caregivers, and service providers to address the health-related challenges of cognitive issues and HIV Associated Neurocognitive Disorder (HAND), particularly with respect to services availability and access. Our goals are to use CBR methods to examine the experiences of up to 60 persons living with HIV concerned with cognitive functioning and their caregivers in 3 sites (ON, AB, BC), as well as the perspectives and experiences of 16 clinical and community-based service providers on delivering care to PHAs (in ON, AB, BC, QB) with neurocognitive issues. We seek full engagement and capacity-building for all team members, including a group of peer research associates (PRAs) who will contribute to the team through study design, data analysis, and knowledge transfer and exchange.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The 0.6 FTE Research Coordinator will assist with project administration, as well as research tasks and KTE tool development. The Research Coordinator will work collaboratively with the HEADS UP! 2 team, and report to the Nominated Principal Investigator (Dr. Catherine Worthington) at the University of Victoria. Performance reviews will be conducted annually. Location of this position is flexible, with preference for someone who is willing to work in Victoria, BC.

 

Administrative/Support (50% of work time)

  • assisting in setting project goals and maintaining study timelines
  • team virtual/face-to-face meeting and event organization and support
  • budget preparation, and quarterly financial report generation
  • preparing / supporting institutional ethics applications
  • liaising with sites and supervision of PRA engagement coordinator, as well as peer research associates
  • general office duties, e.g. records maintenance, email/mailings, photocopying, etc.
  • coordination of transcription and entry of study related data
  • literature searches
  • design of source documents, patient education materials, KTE tools, etc.
  • coordinate neuropsychological testing

 

Research Activities (50% of work time)

  • coordinate participant recruitment, data collection at the sites
  • conduct interview training and/or conduct qualitative interviews with participants
  • assist team with qualitative data analysis and results interpretation
  • ensure secure data storage
  • assist team with academic and community presentation preparation, manuscript development, and other presentation materials

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Graduate degree in Psychology, Public Health, or related discipline, preferably with behavioural science and/or health promotion focus
  • Knowledge of qualitative research approaches and demonstrated qualitative research skills, including conducting interviews and data analysis
  • Understanding of and commitment to community-engaged and participatory research approaches
  • Proven ability to work respectfully with community agencies and community members
  • Excellent command of English, both spoken and written, with fluency in French being a strong asset
  • High level of initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as within a diverse team
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion and safeguard confidentiality
  • Computing skills, including email; MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint; database experience
  • Familiarity with qualitative software (NVivo), and bibliographic software (Endnote)
  • Experience with managing social media and web-based meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom) would be an asset
  • Willingness to travel within Canada for meetings
