Position: PHSA Grant Position, “AUNTIE”

Wage: $24-25 per hour

Hours: Temporary Full-Time (ending March 31, 2020)

Central Interior Native Health Society (CINHS) is a vibrant urban Indigenous Integrated Health Team clinic and educational facility situated on Lheidli T’enneh territory in Prince George, BC. CINHS’ core values are: respect honesty, trust, humour and compassion.

The goal of the PHSA Grant Auntie Support Project, is to increase accessibility to health and social services for northern Indigenous women. The aim is to improve the quality of life for women, their children and family members who have, or are at risk of Human Immunodeficiency Virus/ Hepatitis C Virus (HIV/HCV). This will be accomplished by: increasing the availability and provision of transportation, outreach, advocacy and navigation of community services.

The successful candidate demonstrates:

  • what it is to live with HIV/HCV, or personal experience, or direct knowledge of
  • basic understanding/knowledge of agencies and community supports available for Indigenous women living with, or at risk of HIV/HCV
  • tact, diplomacy & discretion when working with confidential &/or sensitive information
  • Indigenous cultural leadership and spirituality, through group facilitation and ceremonies
  • ability to build relationships and partner with other local and Northern BC communities, provincial and health authority agencies and service providers who work with Indigenous women who live with, or are at risk of HIV/HCV
  • ability to give direction, and set goals with measurable targets
  • ability to complete in-depth charting using standardized coding with all client encounters
  • self-directed and innovative in the approach of setting up meetings with stakeholders
  • ability to mentor, advocate for, support and encourage women to overcome barriers to accessing services to address social determinants of health issues
  • In collaboration with CINHS HASP (a flat organizational team where you do whatever needs to be done), develop a client plan to address the clients’ full range of needs: e.g.: physical health, mental health, substance use and psychosocial needs
  • occasionally travel to surrounding communities required (approx. 100-150km radius)

The successful candidate possesses:

  • personal experience, or direct knowledge of what it is to live with HIV/HCV
  • knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, history, and the impact of colonialism
  • a willingness to embrace an Indigenous world view to better serve our clients
  • valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License & clean drivers abstract
  • a “can do” attitude and interest in working within a flat organisational team
  • assets: Naloxone training, First Aid and 2 years of relevant experience
