Blood Ties Four Directions Centre is seeking a: Housing Support Worker
(full-time, 35 hours per week)
Program Overview – Housing & Homelessness Services
The goal of the Housing Program at Blood Ties is to help street involved people and/or
those with HIV, HepC, and addictions to find and maintain appropriate housing and
work within an eviction prevention model. This work is grounded in our mission to
eliminate barriers and create opportunities for people to have access to health and
wellness, and to live in our community with dignity.
What You Will Do
- Build a strong and healthy tenant’s community, build relationships with housing clients, strengthen client connections with the community and support clients in setting and achieving their housing goals.
- Provide high quality, effective, and appropriate service to agency clients participating in our housing programs as well as agency clients experiencing housing crisis or homelessness.
- Deliver housing education activities to agency clients as well as in the broader community.
- Engage with and build positive relationships with the broader community working to address the housing crisis in Yukon.
- Provide support and advocacy to help residents manage ongoing inter/intrapersonal concerns.
- Intervene in crisis/conflict resolution situations and mediate disputes between residents as it pertains to their tenancy (eg: noise, interpersonal conflict, use of facilities, cleanliness).
- Identify and address barriers to tenants maintaining their housing.
- Deliver housing loss prevention services to support tenants to maintain tenancy through regular follow up, case conference meetings and liaising with other pertinent supports.
You Have
- Post-Secondary degree in social work, human services, criminology, psychology, community development, or Indigenous studies fields
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in delivering housing related services.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in delivering programs to some or all of these populations: people who use drugs, people who have been or are incarcerated, people with mental health challenges and/or people living with HIV or Hepatitis C;
- Experience providing advocacy services or programs
- Demonstrated experience in providing case management to individuals experiencing housing crisis;
- Strong ability to work collaboratively, build partnerships, to work with frequent interruptions, to organize and prioritize efficiently.
- Flexible, positive and solution oriented approach to work;
- A strong commitment to client service and the ability to respond sensitively to a diverse client group with varied needs;
- An understanding of issues around homelessness;
- A solid understanding of the social determinants of health;
- A solid understanding of harm reduction;
- Cultural competence in relation to First Nation people;
- A valid Yukon driver’s license or willingness to get one.
