The Canadian AIDS Society is a national coalition of over 125 community-based AIDS organizations from across Canada. Dedicated to strengthening the response to HIV/AIDS across all sectors of society, we also work to enrich the lives of people and communities living with HIV/AIDS. We accomplish this by advocating on behalf of people and communities affected by HIV/AIDS, facilitating the development of programs, services and resources for our member groups, and providing a national framework for community-based participation in Canada’s response to AIDS.

Responsibilities:

Working under the direction of the Executive Director, the Communications Manager will be responsible for the following:

Media Relations

· Coordinate responses to media inquiries and editorials
· Develop interview briefing documents and talking points
· Maintain media contact databases and profile of key media outlets and reporters
· Prepare media advisories, letters to the editor and other media materials

Canadian AIDS Society Website and Social Media

· Design and maintain web content in consultation with staff
· Ensure website content is accurate and updated
· Manage the communications team to post content on website and social media platforms
· Support content creation.
· Proofread, edit and coordinate translation of articles and content
· Import contents into an electronic template for HIVconnect project
· Coordinate design and layout of knowledge dissemination

Networks:

The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and facilitating meetings with service organizations related to the HIV sector for the purpose of information sharing and the development of guiding materials to support the work being done across Canada.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience

· Degree or diploma from a recognized university or college in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, or a related field
· Minimum 3 years relevant work experience in a communications capacity

Skills/Abilities

· Fluently bilingual, both written and oral, in English and French
· Demonstrated experience in developing and writing briefing materials, press releases, web content and other communications tools
· Ability to write for diverse audiences that requires little editing
· Proofreading and editing skills with an attention to detail
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly MS Word and Excel
· Excellent multi-tasking skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
· Proven participatory work style with the ability to work independently and with a team

Desired Assets

· Familiarity with the community-based HIV movement and the not-for-profit sector
· Familiarity with WordPress and various social media platforms
