Salary: $63,000/year
Benefits: Health and dental after 4 months employment
Travel Required: Travel required On-Site/Community/Regional. Occasional provincial and national travel.
Hours of work: Full-time, vary to meet organizational needs. Regular working hours are Monday to
Friday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with a lunch break from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.

 

Program Summary

Living Positive Resource Centre (LPRC) provides services to:
1. Persons living with HIV and/or Hepatitis C
2. Persons vulnerable to Sexually Transmitted and Blood Borne Infections (STBBIs)

LPRC believes that harm reduction promotes and supports the health and well-being of both individuals and communities. LPRC believes that all humans have the right to comprehensive, non-judgmental services based on individual need. Through education and prevention efforts, LPRC works to reduce the risk of harm to individuals and the community.

The Executive Director supervises and supports all of LPRC’s Programs, particularly the three main programs:
• Harm Reduction Education, HRE ( harm reduction drop-in, drug checking services, and educational
programming)
• Health and Wellness, HWP(one-on-one long term client services)
• Men’s Health Initiative, MHI (support specially catered to queer men in the Central Okanagan

Position Summary

Purpose
The Executive Director is responsible for establishing and executing major goals and objectives for the Society through implementation of policies established by the Board of Directors, while overseeing day-to-day functions of the organization.

Job Summary

The Executive Director is responsible and accountable for providing leadership in all aspects of the operation of the Living Positive Resource Centre.
• Ensures that the strategic objectives and operational plans of the organization are carried out.
• Provides effective and efficient delivery of services within the organization’s mission and mandate.
• Supervises and leads approximately 5 FTE employees within three main programs.
• Manages of a budget of approximately $600,000 annually

Key Areas of Responsibility:
• The initial focus will be on supporting the day-to-day operations of the organization.
• The Executive Director may, at any time, step in to assist with or lead all front-line services when employees are otherwise engaged.
• Represent the organization to regulatory bodies, community and civic organizations, funders, donors, key stakeholders, other agencies, and the public.
• Leadership of human resources including staffing plans, recruitment, staff development and performance reviews.
• Resource acquisition and allocation.
• Program development and evaluation.
• Communications and relationships with key stakeholder such as government agencies, community agencies, regional health board
• Financial management, including maintaining financial records and ensuring operations expenses meet existing funding.
• All activities related to fund development.

Duties include:
• Writes successful grant applications and establishes positive relationships with funders and donors.
• Acts as primary Society negotiator of contracts, in collaboration with Board of Directors.
• Ensures Society employment policies are up-to-date and congruent with society mission and goals, and collective agreement requirements.
• Provides regular on-call coverage.
• Monitor government legislation, trends, programs, needs, and resources, as well as community needs and resources.
• Works with Board of Directors on governance policy issues by providing support, recommending changes to policies and procedures, and enacting changes to improve the organization.
• Develops, implements, and reviews all necessary procedures including a consistent, ongoing process of employee supervision and evaluation as per the Policy and Procedures and Collective Agreement.
• Attends and participate in Board, executive, and other committee meetings as required.
• Submits all information, reports, and records as requested or required by law or contract to government bodies, funders, or the Board of Directors.
• Initiates and directs the development of outcome evaluation processes that meet the needs of funders
and/or the organization.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent, and;
• 3 to 5 years of experience in a management position responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of operational and strategic plans.
• Complete a Criminal Record Check

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Working knowledge of unionized employees, collective agreements, and labour laws
• Experience in non-profit community-based settings, particularly with a volunteer board of
directors/professional staff model
• Working knowledge with respect to harm reduction and its various approaches
• Clinical knowledge of HIV/AIDS, HCV, STBBIs and related issues
• Knowledge of social justice, health promotion, and public health approaches, and models of social support and health care, and areas of safer drug use, safer sex, sex work, addictions and other related topics.
• Understanding, familiarity, and sensitivity to issues impacting 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and individuals.
• Experience in grant writing.
• Highly developed interpersonal skills for effective communication with service users, staff, volunteers,
professionals, and community colleagues.
• Excellent writing abilities with strong creative skills.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain clear precise records, very well organized with good time management skills.
• Sensitive to issues of diversity with practical experience with marginalized communities
• Ability to provide direction and work effectively in a very demanding work environment.
• Receptive to professional development and evaluation.
• Demonstrated financial management skills.

• Travel required (e.g., community outreach, meetings, conferences); mileage and travel reimbursement provided.
• Regular business hours with some requirements of evening, weekend, and on-call work.
