HIV Treatment course for people working on Vancouver Island

Working on Vancouver Island? You’re invited to take part in an upcoming HIV Treatment training!

CATIE is partnering with AVI Health and Community Services (AVI) to deliver a training course for you and your colleagues on HIV Treatment. This course has been customized specifically for people working on Vancouver Island. Read on for a full course outline.

The purpose of the course is to support frontline service providers to talk to their clients about HIV treatment and support them to consider starting, staying on, or resuming treatment.

This course includes four hours of instruction, delivered over four weeks online. It includes weekly self-directed modules, weekly discussion boards facilitated by a CATIE educator, and a live, interactive online meeting with our educators and fellow students and local speakers.

Audience

This course is for frontline service providers who work with people who are living with HIV. Participants should have a basic understanding of HIV before beginning this course. Weekly topic breakdown

HIV Treatment includes three online modules that include a variety of learning activities such as e-learning units, readings, discussion board assignments, videos and webinars. You can work through each weekly online module at your own pace. Each module takes up to 1 hour to complete.

An online meeting is held on the fourth week to conclude the course.

 

Week 1: How HIV treatment works, the health and prevention benefits of HIV treatment, and how HIV treatment is monitored

Week 2: What taking HIV treatment entails, HIV treatment drug regimens, and the importance of adhering to HIV treatment and its relation to HIV drug resistance

Week 3: How to support people starting, switching, and staying on HIV treatment

Week 4: Interactive online meeting – HIV Treatment: Implications for Front Line Workers, October 22 at noon, PST.

 

Timing

The online modules are available from October 6 to be completed before the October 22 meeting.
