Job Posting: Research Coordinator (RC) for the Sub-Saharan Women’s Education & Empowerment Project

Job opportunity: Research Coordinator (RC) for the Sub-Saharan Women’s Education & Empowerment Project with Afro-Canadian Positive Network of BC (ACPNET)

Description

Reporting to Dr. Nathan Lachowsky (me, Academic Co-Lead, UVIC) and Patience Magagula (Community Co-Lead, ACPNET), the Research Coordinator provides research-related support for numerous activities under development and being implemented for the Sub-Saharan Women’s Education & Empowerment project with Afro-Canadian Positive Network of BC (ACPNET). As an Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health and Social Policy and Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar at the University of Victoria, I have a vibrant and dynamic program of research focused on community-based health equity research. You would join our team, which focuses on empowerment of and social justice for marginalized communities such as immigrant and ethnoracialized people, Indigenous people, LGBTQ2+ people, and those living with and affected by HIV, Hep C, and STIs. We’re looking to support enthusiastic folks from the diverse communities that we work with. We believe that no research about these communities should be developed without the communities in question being involved every step of the way. “Nothing about us, without us”.

This project is funded by a Canadian Institutes for Health Research Community-Based HIV/AIDS Research Catalyst Grant.

Location

Ideally the position will be based out of Surrey, British Columbia. If you would prefer to work in another part of the province, please indicate this on your cover letter.

Hours

The position is for up to 15 hours/week. Working hours are flexible in terms of days and timing,
but some evening and weekend hours will be required.

Term

The initial contract will go from approximately November 1, 2019 until April 30, 2020 (six
months), with possibility of renewal.

Rate of pay

Hourly rate is $20-$24/hour depending on skills and experience.
