Job Summary:

Reporting to the Board, this position provides support and outreach to clients who have or are at risk for HIV/AIDS, their care givers and families. Job responsibilities involve working with clients on an individual basis on site and/or primarily in the community of Richmond and facilitating support groups, a monthly dinner as well as community outings. This position liaises with an advisory committee of the board of directors, educator and client group as well as related community health and social service agencies and the medical community. The successful candidate needs to work independently and communicates with internal and external stakeholders/clients in a manner that promotes positive and respectful relationships and personal resiliency. Areas of service and referral for clients include:
– Resources related to HIV/AIDS and its treatments
– Financial/housing and food security challenges
– Relationship dynamics
– Addictions and mental health concerns
The job involves guidance and support together with assistance in obtaining help for specific issues. A portion also involves leadership in our Education/Awareness/Prevention activities, particularly aimed at young people. Demonstrated resourcefulness and creativity will be an important asset.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to resolve conflicts and provide crisis intervention
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written form (English)
  • Ability to work independently and within a team setting
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and coordinate client support services

The successful candidate will be able to work independently and proactively and take direction from the Board of Directors’ advisory committee.

 

Qualifications:

A Degree in social work, nursing or related discipline is required plus 2 years’ experience in a related field. Knowledge and awareness of issues of persons living with HIV/AIDS, addictions, family systems is preferred. HIV positive individuals are encouraged to apply. Valid BC Driver’s license. Local area travel will require the use of a personal vehicle. Valid CPR and First Aid certificates.
