Education Department, Positive Living North (Prince George)
37.5 Hours per Week, $19 – 21 per hour
Positive Living North is an Aboriginal, non-profit, community-based organization providing care, support and advocacy for people living with, vulnerable to, and affected by HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C (HCV). We are looking to interview exceptional candidates who are committed to ongoing personal and professional growth who are interested in a position as a full-time Health Educator/Positive Prevention Coordinator. Candidate Profile
PLN seeks a team player with healthy personal characteristics who is passionate about
supporting our mandate to assist all people in gaining full access to the Determinants of
Health. We seek a dynamic individual who can compassionately, comfortably and
confidentially work in an environment that respects diversity and has the ability to deal nonjudgementally with issues such as addiction, poverty, and the legacy of the colonization of
Aboriginal people. This person will work closely with the Education Manager to develop
HIV/AIDS/HCV education programs for implementation in the north.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in the Social Sciences field, current knowledge related to
HIV/AIDS, or equivalent education/experience - Experience facilitating educational presentations
- Have an understanding of the complexity of working in diverse communities and
knowledge of Aboriginal history and culture and the effects of colonization - A thorough appreciation and awareness of Aboriginal history and culture
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, time management, written & verbal
communication skills - Personal characteristics that will contribute to a healthy, dynamic team & the ability
to work independently - Computer experience with Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, and Outlook, &
Internet research skills
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work within a client-centered, risk/harm reduction environment
to:
- Facilitate educational programs in a knowledgeable and skilled manner, supporting
PLN members in participating as facilitators when possible, with a willingness and
ability to travel - Assess the need for educational programs and assist in curriculum development
- Ensure supplies are ordered and available for education and awareness activities on
and off site - Participate in the planning and implementation of special events (e.g. AIDS Walk,
Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week/Day, World AIDS Day) - Produce quarterly newsletters (experience with publishing programs an asset)
- Work in conjunction with other PLN departments in the provision of HIV/AIDS/HCVrelated
education and awareness activities
