Seeking Trans, Two-Spirit and Gender Diverse People for Focus Groups

by Emily Sollows, Nurse Educator, Clinical Prevention Services, BCCDC

Harm Reduction Services at the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) is in search of transgender, Two-Spirit, and/or gender diverse folks to participate in a series of two 2-hour focus groups to inform changes to our service delivery.

Our goal is to create relevant resources based on self-identified needs and lived experiences of people who have or are currently using injectable hormone replacement therapies (HRT), inclusive of those who use substances more generally.

Focus groups will be facilitated by someone with lived experience and compensation is provided. Following the first focus group, we will be launching a provincial online feedback survey to help guide the direction of the project.

Through this process, we hope to:

  • Encourage harm reduction sites across the province to distribute relevant supplies for gender affirming injectable hormone replacement therapy.
  • Develop education resources for clients, by clients, on safer practices for intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
  • Create education materials for Harm Reduction Site staff on HRT-related supplies in order to empower our teams to be an informed resource.
  • Resources for staff on creating safer, more welcoming spaces for trans, Two-Spirit, and gender diverse people, such as “Language Matters” education.
  • Create additional resources if needed, as determined by participants during community engagement.

Applications will be accepted until January 16th, 2019.
