Call for Members of BC Community Advisory Board

Are you interested in making a positive change to how testing for
sexually transmitted and blood borne infections (STBBI) is delivered in your community?

Join our BC Community Advisory Board!

What is GetCheckedOnline (GCO)?

GetCheckedOnline is an internet based STBBI testing service developed by the BC Centre for Disease Control. GCO allows you to get tested by printing a lab form or downloading an electronic version on your phone, that you then take to a lab and get your results online or by phone. At present, GCO is available in Vancouver, Victoria, Langford, Duncan, Kamloops and Nelson, BC, but we are planning to further expand across BC.

What is the GCO Implementation Science Research Team looking to accomplish?

Our research team is looking to understand how GCO can be best implemented across BC to be effective for populations affected by STBBI, in urban, rural and remote settings. Overall, we aim to reduce barriers to accessing STBBI testing in BC.

Why are we recruiting the BC Community Advisory Board (CAB)?

We want to ensure that the expansion of GCO is meaningful and appropriate to the individuals and populations affected by STBBI. We are forming a BC Community Advisory Board which will advise and support the team to incorporate community’s perspectives in our research.

Who are we looking for on the BC CAB?

We are looking for up to 7 members on the BC CAB who represent different communities affected by STBBI across BC, with a focus on suburban, rural and remote areas. You don’t have to have any prior experience with research to be involved; all we ask is that CAB members bring their lived experiences and community voices forward to our discussions.

What is involved?

Members of the BC CAB, along with the CAB Chair, Kim Kinakin (Men’s Health Initiative, Kelowna) will provide input on research activities. CAB members are expected to meet quarterly (mostly through teleconference), and to review documents occasionally via e-mail. Stipends will be offered to CAB members to acknowledge their involvement in CAB activities.
