Job posting: Community Educator, Pivot Legal Society

Excerpt, Charity Village posting:

Pivot works with marginalized communities to create a just, fair, and equitable society through litigation, law reform, and legal education. In partnership with affected communities, Pivot develops campaigns to create systematic change on many of Canada’s most pressing human rights issues. We are a highly collaborative organization. We strive to recruit team members from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of life experiences.

About You

You are an excellent relationship builder committed to working in partnership with people experiencing poverty and marginalization, grassroots organizations, and social change movements. You are a skillful systems navigator and knowledge translator. You have excellent project management and interpersonal skills and are looking for an exciting, dynamic, and collaborative working environment. You are ready for the challenge of working together with lawyers, policy experts, frontline service providers, and people with lived experience to uphold the human rights of people experiencing homelessness, people who use substances, and people who do sex work.

You bring a strong intersectional analysis to your work that relies upon a deep understanding of settler colonialism, white supremacy, classism, patriarchy, trans-misogyny, ableism, and anti-substance user stigma. Applicants are invited to share how their lived experience informs their approach and ethics.

The Community Educator also hosts workshops and knowledge sharing opportunities for service providers, health care workers, students, and other members of the public. This role will require flexibility and the ability to be responsive to changing conditions on the ground while remaining focused on long term goals.
