As Wellness Research Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to be a part of the “First Nations Health & Wellness Indicator Development in British Columbia: The Role of Indigenous Knowledge” project! Your extensive experience in planning along with your experience working with First Nations will be an asset to this team!

Under the guidance of the FNHA Research and Knowledge Exchange team, the FNHA Office of the Chief Medical Officer and the Technical Advisory Committee, the Wellness Research Coordinator coordinates the planning, implementation and reporting for the project. This includes the coordination of a systematic review and two community workshops.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Coordinates a scoping review of secondary literature on the topic of First Nations wellness indicators
2. Develops two local planning committees to co-host each workshop in each region
3. Supports the recruitment of First Nations Knowledge Holders
4. Organizes workshop logistics, including arrangement of transportation, catering and venue
5. Develops a workshop agenda and discussion guide for workshop sharing circles
6. Prepares minutes of meetings, records, reports and other documentation as required to SFU, FNHA, partners and CIHR
7. Collects demographic data from workshop participants
8. Transcribes and analyzes audio recordings from the workshops

 

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in public health preferably with expertise in Indigenous Peoples’ health.
• Recent, relevant and significant experience in research, analysis and report preparation related to health or social sciences with preference given to expertise in Indigenous Peoples’ health.
• Experience in project planning including budgeting, planning and coordination.
• Experience in research, writing, and note-taking.
• Experience in community engagement or consultative processes.
• Knowledge of CIHR grant management and reporting processes.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of BC First Nations communities, their health governance model and issues facing them relative to health and wellness.
• Knowledge of inter-cultural dynamics, social determinants of health of First Nations peoples
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively with others.
• Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research and analysis, including scholarly outputs such as peer-reviewed articles and reports.
• Ability to translate complex concepts into easily understood and audience appropriate briefing notes, reports and presentations.
• Ability to multi-task and set priorities effectively.
• Ability to utilize, proficiently, the Microsoft Office suite.
