Job Posting: Managing Director, CBRC

For nearly two decades, Community-Based Research Centre for Gay Men’s Health (CBRC) has been advocating broad approaches to gay men’s health promotion that include action on social drivers like stigma and prejudice. Incorporated in 1999, CBRC is a charitable health promotion organization aiming to improve the lives of gay and other sexual minority men through research, learning and leadership development. CBRC’s vision – A Better World for Gay Men.

Fundamental to CBRC is its dynamic community-based research program. The Sex Now Survey, first launched in 2002, has grown into a national gay men’s health survey providing vital data for programming, policy and evaluation. From research evidence, CBRC has created popular programs like Totally Outright, the Investigaytors and the Gay Men’s Health Summit enabling gay, bisexual, two spirit and trans men to work together to build capacity and address community needs. Momentum has grown but inequities persist. Now, CBRC is undertaking a new intervention: the Smarter Prevention project.

We’re looking for a Managing Director to lead the organization and head up our new national initiative. You will work closely with the Research Director to deliver the Society’s vision of evidence-based programming responsive to the needs of all sexual minority men.

CBRC’s Smarter Prevention project is a five-year initiative that will promote “combination prevention” – a collaborative approach to HIV prevention that brings behavioural, societal and biomedical efforts together in a rights-based, evidence-informed “package” tailored to specific population needs, organized at the community level. As the successful candidate, you will lead the overall direction of CBRC’s Smarter Prevention project and specifically direct CBRC’s Summit and Communications program to align with the initiative. You are a skilled writer-communicator who can roll up your sleeves and hold your own with a creative team as well as direct the overall effort. This is your opportunity to lead and create CBRC’s next vision. You will be located in beautiful Vancouver.
