We look forward to welcoming you to Taking Action on Hepatitis.
World Hepatitis Day (WHD) is an annual day of recognition, education, and advocacy on July 28th. Let’s break it down is the theme of this year’s WHD: “Let’s break down the barriers holding us back from a hepatitis-free world. The World Hepatitis Alliance, our partners, allies, and our 400 members in 120 countries are calling for action to end this entirely preventable disease.”
To build knowledge and support advocacy towards this goal, we are hosting an online community event on Wednesday July 23, 2025. It will feature information on the picture of viral hepatitis in BC and beyond, plus a peer-based program that is making great strides.
Join us to share, learn, and discuss how we can decrease the stigma of hepatitis and support healthier communities. Let’s take action together!

Presenter: Mo Korchinski. Executive Director of Unlocking the Gates
What’s needed to create trust, improve health, and create community ties for people leaving correctional centres? This session will explore this question. Unlocking the Gates is a peer-led organization to support people leaving corrections to reintegrate into community life. Peer mentors help to navigate connection to housing, healthcare, testing and treatment for hepatitis C, and social supports. Unlocking the Gates (UTG) is staffed by people with lived experience of incarceration themselves, people who understand the pathways to release and how life can be after you’ve been incarcerated. Mo Korchinski, the Executive Director, will present how UTG addresses stigma; helps people plan, and access services and supports they will need once they are released. Learn how your organization can complement the work of Unlocking the Gates and strengthen community supports.
