Study seeking gender-diverse youth participants for 1-hr interview

You are invited to participate in a study entitled The Role of Self-Acceptance in Mental Health Outcomes Among Gender-Diverse Individuals. Josephine Deschamps is conducting research under Dr. John Sherry’s direction through the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC).

Why is this research being done?

This research project is being conducted with the purpose of better understanding the experience of being gender-diverse with a particular focus on the resilience factor of self-acceptance. In other words, I am curious about the relationship between self-acceptance and mental health. I would like to hear your story of understanding and acknowledging this piece of your identity and your experience within the world. My goal is amplify the voice of those who do not fit within the gender binary to share their experiences, providing others with insight into what it is like to identify as gender-diverse and how we can better support the community to create a place of acceptance.

If you agree to take part in the study, you will be asked to participate in a private one-on-one interview that will last approximately 60 minutes and be audio recorded. The interview will be done via Zoom; there is no obligation to have a camera on and only the audio will be recorded. You will be asked to share your journey to understanding your gender identity and whether you feel you have accepted that part of you. You may disclose experiences in a social context or any impact your gender identity has had on your mental health, but you will not be directly asked this as it may be challenging to discuss. Although these are deeply personal and intimate topics, you can decide what you do and do not share. – Excerpt from Participant information and Consent letter. Read more.
