Today is World Hepatitis Day, a day to make more people aware of hepatitis and options for care and treatment. Here are a few pieces on what’s making the news across the country:
East Coast:
Issuing a call to action on World Hepatitis Day
“Hepatitis C rates in Cape Breton are some of the highest in Canada,” said Christine Porter, the executive director of Ally Centre Cape Breton. Because of the call to action for World Hepatitis Day, the Ally Centre is partnering with the Nova Scotia Health Authority to host an event in Glace Bay today.
Central Canada:
HCV Advocate Lana Brown speaks out about the realities of living with the virus:
“The one symptom that I despise the most is your body’s insatiable need for rest. You try to sleep and rest as much as you can. It doesn’t matter what you do. That feeling never goes away.”
Back here in BC:
Renew strategy to achieve a hepatitis C free future, writes HCV advocate and president of the Pacific Hepatitis C Network, Daryl Luster:
“[On] World Hepatitis Day and we have much to celebrate. We have made great strides in our work toward eliminating viral hepatitis by 2030, but there are still critical areas where we can and must do more.”
Earlier this week we posted what’s happening in BC; check out what different communities are doing. In addition, CATIE hosted a webinar yesterday that’s now available online: Hepatitis C in 2017: Improved treatment access and frontline realities.
Best to all for an enlightening and strengthening day!
