In recognition of the start of National Indigenous History Month, PAN is happy to share a new resource: an online course to support our members and allies to reflect on their reconciliation journeys as individuals and organizations.
PAN has worked with the team at Indigenous Perspectives Society (IPS) since 2021, learning from Executive Director Rachelle Dallaire and her colleagues how we can continue to make organizational changes to enhance our cultural knowledges and practices. We are committed to honour the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). With IPS’ support, we’ve developed an Indigenous Cultural Agility Workplan to look at how we do our work at PAN, how we can improve, and what resources we can share with our members and allies.
This new course was developed with permission and support of Rachelle. It’s based on a presentation that she gave in the fall of 2024 at PAN’s Annual General Meeting. We have taken the presentation and edited it into 8 short lessons, with guiding questions for each. There are no tests of knowledge; this course is for understanding, values, and growth.
There are questions for individuals to consider and questions for workplaces to discuss. An individual may take 15 minutes per lesson, where a workplace group will likely take longer to build out discussion. Each lesson can be done on its own, and there are resources for further information as well.
The course can be found on our KnowledgeConnect PAN site, which features information to help frontline service providers, allies, and policy makers to build capacity in their work. In addition to the Walking with Truth and Reconciliation course, there is leadership course for people with lived experience of hepatitis C, plus a database of peer employment resources. You can find the home page of KnowledgeConnect PAN here, and the Walking with Truth and Reconciliation course here.
