Lung Cancer Screening Saves Lives

The Canadian Lung Cancer Screening Initiative (CLCSI), the sister organization of the American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative is a team of over 200 doctors and students working to raise awareness for lung cancer and lung cancer screening with the hopes of helping high-risk individuals get screened for lung cancer.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Canada and the world, causing more deaths than breast, prostate, and colon cancer combined. While early detection through lung cancer screening by low-dose computed tomography (CT) significantly reduces lung cancer mortality by up to 33%, only 5.7% of high-risk individuals are currently getting screened.

In order to increase the lung cancer screening rate and save lives, CLCSI is partnering with communities to raise awareness and educate community members about lung cancer and lung cancer screening. Specifically, the CLCSI has a goal of educating BC residents on the Lung Screening Program in over 30 participating hospitals across British Columbia.
