The BC government has announced new guidelines for HIV testing in BC

On May 12th, the BC government has announced new guidelines for HIV testing in BC.

Provincial health officer Dr. Perry Kendall said the routine testing has the potential to eliminate the virus in B.C., and they’re encouraging health-care providers to urge patients to take the test. “The new guidelines are similar to recommendations made by expert bodies in the USA, U.K. and France,” said Dr. Kendall. “They are evidence-based and were written by an expert panel of B.C. doctors from a number of clinical specialties.”

The guidelines recommend health-care providers offer HIV tests every five years to patients aged 18 to 70 years, tests every year for those who belong to high-risk HIV populations, and testing once to patients 70 years or older.
