The CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative, led by the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity, is pleased to announce the following funding opportunities launched in December 2010:
1 – Operating Grant: Winter 2011 Priority Announcement (Specific Research Areas)
The CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative will provide funding for applications that have a primary research focus on HIV/AIDS and are determined to be relevant to one of the research priority areas. Research in the research priority areas that also focuses on at risk populations including people living with HIV/AIDS, men who have sex with men, injection drug users, Aboriginal Peoples, prison inmates, youth at risk, women at risk and people from countries where HIV is endemic, is encouraged.
The maximum amount awarded for a single grant is $150,000 per annum for up to three years.
The maximum amount awarded for a single bridge grant is $100,000 per annum for up to one year.

2 – Fellowship: Winter 2011 Priority Announcement (Specific Research Areas)
Priority Announcements on Fellowship competitions offer additional sources of funding for highly rated applications that are relevant to specific CIHR research priority areas or mandates.
Through this Priority Announcement, the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative will provide funding for applications that have a primary research focus on HIV/AIDS and are determined to be relevant to one of the research priority areas.
The maximum amount awarded for a single award is $60,000 per annum for up to five years.

3 – Meetings, Planning and Dissemination Grant: Infection and Immunity (Winter 2011 Competition)
Meetings, Planning and Dissemination Grants are intended to provide support for meetings, planning and/or dissemination activities consistent with the mandate of CIHR and relevant to CIHR Institutes, Initiatives, or Branches. The Institute of Infection and Immunity is the lead CIHR Institute for the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative and will provide funding from this initiative for relevant applications.
The maximum amount per grant is $10,000.

4 – Catalyst Grant: HIV/AIDS (Community-Based Research)
This funding opportunity "Catalyst Grant: HIV/AIDS Community-Based Research" is offered through the HIV/AIDS Community-Based Research Program and is in partnership with the CIHR Institute of Aboriginal Peoples’ Health. As with all opportunities offered through the Community-Based Research Program, funding for this opportunity is available in two distinct funding streams: Aboriginal and General.
The maximum amount per grant is $ 33,000 for up to one year.

5 – Master’s Award: HIV/AIDS (Community-Based Research)
This funding opportunity "Master’s Award: HIV/AIDS Community-Based Research" is offered through the HIV/AIDS Community-Based Research Program and is in partnership with the CIHR Institute of Aboriginal Peoples’ Health. As with all opportunities offered through the Community-Based Research Program, funding for the opportunity is available in two distinct funding streams: Aboriginal and General.
The maximum amount per award is $17,500 for up to two years.
