GNP+ Calls for Researchers to Acknowledge the Role of People Living with HIV in Their Work

The Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+) is calling out to researchers and advocates to acknowledge the essential role that people living with HIV play in research work. In the post, Inclusion and Respect – appreciating the role people living with HIV have with our research partners, the relationship of researchers and PLHIV is recognized:

The partnerships forged between people living with HIV and researchers have been an essential foundation upon which the response to the HIV epidemic has grown and the time has come to reaffirm and recommit to principles of inclusion and respect in the conduct of presenting research findings that impacts on our lives….

… Though many researchers understand the centrality of people living with HIV to their work, others – to put it bluntly – do not appear to. The relationship that people living with HIV have with the research community today is exceedingly important, but it is based upon the sense of reciprocity.

GNP+ has issued a Call to Action asking that researchers publicly acknowledge the contributions of PLHIV in their work, “thanking the people living with HIV who have generously shared their time,
experiences, and bodies for the purposes of this research.”
