Job Summary:
The Positive Women’s Network Peer Navigators work directly with both Oak Tree and other stakeholders to develop strategies to maintain or improve health and wellness and implement self-management skills for women living with HIV. Peer Navigators are directly supervised by the PWN Executive Director, and work as part of the PWN Staff Team.
Job Responsibilities:
Ø Provide informal one-to-one peer education on HIV disease including treatment, prevention of disease progression, prevention of transmission, self-care, emotional wellness, social support, disclosure and harm-reduction;
Ø Help women living with HIV and/or HIV/HCV to develop self-management skills based on participant-identified needs or PWN staff recommendations;
Ø Address issues of stigma and disclosure with peers;
Ø Refer women to HIV and/or HCV related health and wellness services and/or other community services;
Ø Accompany women to medical and other community appointments;
Ø Maintain confidential and accurate files.
Training, Experience and Abilities:
Ø Lived experience as a woman living with HIV and or HIV/HCV;
Ø Excellent listening skills;
Ø Ability to work independently, and as part of a team;
Ø Ability to ask for support and de-briefing when needed;
Ø A strong, solid personal support group and/or active self-care or recovery regimen;
Ø Comfortable communicating with health care professionals;
Ø Training in peer support, leadership or other relevant training.

Wage grid: estimated between $20.00 and $22.00 per hr, 4-8 hour work week, union benefits package
