The Ribbon Community Women’s Food Security Program supports women living with HIV to access culturally responsive, nutritious food items wherever they live in BC. This program started in late 2024 and is still in the building phase of our offerings. At this time, we offer:
• Financial support directly to pregnant people living with HIV throughout four trimesters, including postpartum
• A monthly food distribution event in Surrey that thoughtfully incorporate culturally significant foods, addressing the unique preferences and needs of our clients
• Emergency food support on an as-needed basis
Over the coming months, we will also be offering community kitchens at various locations, hosted by women living with HIV seeking to share recipes and build connection.
Throughout this program, we work to honour and celebrate the cultural diversity with Ribbon Community. Our overarching goal is to empower women by providing safe and equitable access to food.
We are very open to collaborations with local HIV services and clinics throughout BC. Please be in touch anytime to discuss opportunities to increase food security for women living with HIV in your work.
Our next food distribution pop-up comes up on the 10th of March in Surrey and the location will be given eligible community members upon RSVP with Hadiza, the Food Security Program coordinator. Reach Hadiza directly at [email protected] or call/text 236-688-6428.
