HIV Criminalization – Government Consultation Report

Via HIV Legal Network

On behalf of the HIV Legal Network and the Canadian Coalition to Reform HIV Criminalization, we are reaching out to individuals and organizations who have been engaged, in one way or another, in the ongoing discussions and law reform efforts concerning HIV criminalization.

On Friday June 23rd, the government released the following report summarizing the results of the public consultation that they initiated last fall on this issue: https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/cons/hiv-vih/rep-rap/index.html

We invite you to review the contents of this report and thank all of those who shared their views as part of the consultation process. As you will find, there were several areas where there were significant levels of agreement from respondents, and other areas where the responses were more divided.

Over the past few months, the Coalition has continued to engage with governmental stakeholders on this file. Our advocacy will persist in the coming months and we hope that these efforts will help result in the introduction of a bill that meets the various objectives laid out in the 2022 Consensus Statement.

On that note, Pride Season is underway in Canada and in the spirit of political protest and mobilization we invite you to continue exerting pressure by sending a message to key government officials to take action and respond to community demands : http://www.hivcriminalization.ca/take-action-as-an-individual/

Many thanks for your continued support in this fight.
