Job posting: PLDI Indigenous Outreach Coordinator (Second posting)

The Positive Leadership Development Institute (PLDI) is a program developed by and for people living with HIV (PLHIV) that aims to create a network of informed and empowered PLHIV who will participate in and influence their local community. Training sessions are designed to build individual resilience to confront HIV stigma and discrimination, identify personal leadership values and philosophy, develop leadership skills and practices, and gain community knowledge and awareness for greater participation in community endeavours. The PLDI is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada as an alliance of COCQ-SIDA, the Ontario AIDS Network (OAN) and PAN.

This position is a project to establish sustainable relationships within Indigenous and ACB communities to evaluate the content of the PLDI training for cultural safety and inclusion. Under the authority of COCQ-SIDA’s Executive Director and in collaboration with the Senior Management Team of the PLDI, the Coordinator will work with organisations and individuals living with HIV from the concerned communities to accomplish this work. This project is funded for 18 months by a grant from Gilead Sciences.


COCQ-SIDA is looking for a candidate able to accomplish the following tasks:

• Initiate respectful and truthful relationships between the PLDI Alliance and 3-4 community-based organizations (CBOs) working primarily with Indigenous communities as well as another 3-4 organizations focusing on the health of ACB communities and establish a Partnership Committee
• Coordinate and facilitate the foundations of a permanent Indigenous Advisory Committee (IAC) for the PLDI Alliance (COCQ-SIDA, OAN, PAN) for the next 5 fiscal years
• Recruit Indigenous and ACB PLHIV, emerging leaders and advocates for focus groups on the PLDI trainings (groups in English and French, including 4 IAC members)
• Co-Facilitate with the PLDI Managers two focus groups (1 in English, 1 in French) each composed of 4 Indigenous PLHIV and 4 ACB PLHIV
• Working with the input of the Partnership Committee and the focus groups, and with a view to Indigenous teachings and data ownership considerations, conduct a review of the cultural safety and references used in the curriculum and delivery of PLDI Core, Communication and Governance trainings, and revise as determined through the process
• Co-coordinate and pilot, with the national Alliance Manager, an in-person Core training for 12 Indigenous PLHIV from the prairie provinces
• Contribute to the promotion of PLDI and the establishment of partnerships throughout Canada in collaboration with the PLDI Alliance Manager and the three regional PLDI managers
• Attend and participate in Senior Management Committee meetings with the PLDI Alliance Manager and the three regional PLDI managers twice per month
• Working with the PLDI Evaluation Team, develop a KTE and evaluation plan for the project, to share findings from the cultural safety review of our curriculum, recruitment and delivery methods to better reach and be more inclusive of Indigenous and ACB communities, including:
• Present a poster of our processes and findings at CAHR 2023
• Write blog article on PLDI.CA (EN) and IDLP.CA (FR) reporting the outcomes, findings and adaptation by the program
• Share project results directly with PLDI graduates in the three Alliance regions
• Report on project outcomes and success to Gilead Sciences as required
• Other related tasks as requested by the Director


Skills expectations:

• Experience in Administrative or Project Coordination roles in a non-profit environment, from project inception to completion
• Experience evaluating community-based programs and interventions
• Strong communication skills in English and French, written and verbal, for different audiences
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Zoom
• Experience working with Indigenous communities in a culturally safe way
• Familiarity with Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing
• Experience working with ACB communities an asset
• HIV/AIDS experience/knowledge and commitment to the GIPA Principle
• Experience of PLDI trainings an asset
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills: multitasking, prioritizing, meeting deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Good analytical, research and troubleshooting skills
• Skilled team player who is able to build professional and effective working relationships with a diverse group of partners – respected and respectful
• Facilitation skills, diplomacy and tact
• Understanding and respect of discretion and confidentiality
• Conflict resolution skills
• Flexible schedule and able to work virtually


Working Conditions:

5 days/week (35 hours)
18 month contract
Annual salary of $48,925 (probationary rate) + benefits
