This year’s guest speaker will be Daniel Sands. Daniel is a Two-Spirit, gay, HIV positive client and service user of AVI since diagnosis in 2015. Their identities also include intergenerational residential “school” survivor, cancer survivor, sexual, physical, and emotional abuse survivor, and bullying survivor. They have experiences of homelessness, substance use, sobriety, mental wellness challenges including anxiety and depression, ADHD and other learning challenges. They use they/them pronouns and a manual wheelchair whose nickname is Diva. Their roles at AVI have included volunteering, working at reception, and now their current role as a Special Focus Educator with the South Island Education Team.
