Job Posting – Educator, Chee Mamuk

Chee Mamuk is a provincial Aboriginal program that provides innovative and culturally appropriate training, educational resources and wise practice models in STIs, hepatitis and HIV.

Role Summary

Working under the direction of the Program Supervisor, Chee Mamuk, the Educator’s responsibilities include; contacting Aboriginal organizations and communities across BC to promote, plan, arrange and facilitate/provide culturally appropriate, community based STI/HIV awareness, education and training events within the communities or organization; facilitate community based STI/HIV needs assessments; ensuring evaluation of Chee Mamuk program services and providing evaluation assistance for other community based STI/HIV programs/services; representing Chee Mamuk at professional development sessions and on advisory committees with Chee Mamuk partners; preparing monthly work plans and service reports; assist Program Manager in other duties as required.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Works both independently and in conjunction with Program Supervisor to plan, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate community-based workshops, awareness activities, best practice models, and specialized training courses that ensure the successful delivery of culturally sensitive HIV/STI education to Aboriginal groups throughout the province.
  • Reviews and updates Aboriginal HIV and STI materials for currency and correctness to ensure effective program implementation.
  • Plans, develops, produces, implements, and evaluates culturally sensitive programming and learning materials appropriate to BC Aboriginal groups and communities on and off reserve.
  • Provides consultation to Aboriginal and other groups to reach decisions, develop, and implement strategies on Aboriginal HIV and STI education and awareness.
  • Represents Chee Mamuk on committees or advisory boards and/or presentations at conferences to professional groups (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal).
  • Works both independently and in conjunction with Program Supervisor to manage contracts and grant expenditures for Aboriginal HIV positive speakers and other relevant contracts.
  • Participates in quality and safety initiatives, accreditation and other PHSA initiatives as appropriate.
