Health Initiative for Men (HIM)’s Hottest at the Start campaign continues through online video. Having debuted at this year’s Vancouver Out On Screen Film Festival, this attention-grabbing video campaign speaks to gay men in a frank way about Acute HIV infection.
The campaign explains that HIV is “hottest,” or most transmissible at the start of a new infection, drawing a parallel to the sexual excitement of a new relationship. With studies of gay men in Vancouver telling us that 25% of those under 30 years old haven’t been tested for HIV, and 1 in 5 gay men are now HIV positive, the video hopes to encourage men to get tested after a risky sex event and know their HIV status as soon as possible.
