Pilot PLDI Online Communications Training March 13-27, 2024  – applications now open.

The Positive Leadership Development Institute trainings are developed by and for people living with HIV.  The online Communications Training is a module that requires that applicants have completed the PLDI Core Leadership Training “Who am I as a Leader?”. Learn more about PLDI training options.

PLDI Western Canada- Pilot Online Communications Training will start in March 2024 on Wednesday March 13.

PLDI Trainer led Zoom sessions will be Wednesdays March 13, 20 and 27, 2024 from 9 AM-12 PM Pacific Time.

Online self-paced sessions work is to be done between March 13-20 and March 20-27 on your own time.

The Pilot Online Communications Training will explore the following topics through presentations, group work and discussions:

  • Principles of leadership
  • Structured Feedback
  • Active Listening
  • Dealing with Difficult Situations & Distracting Behaviours
  • Emotional Activators and Anchors
  • Facilitation Skills
  • Presentation Skills/Public Speaking
  • Practicum -Participants will develop and deliver a short *5min presentation

 

*Part of the curriculum for this training will be delivering a 5 min presentation online the final day (March 27) of week 3.  We know for some people this can be a source of unease, however think of this as practice in front of a supportive group of peers. A few details below:

  • You will have 5 minutes to present: (we ask you please keep it to 5 min)
  • The topic can be whatever you choose, perhaps something topical, current, historic, or fun (e.g., something you are passionate about, personal hobby of interest, or something you wish to communicate)
  • Your presentation can be conveyed online through storytelling, use of props, powerpoint, etc. Some example’s of presentations PLDI leaders have done online in 5min; Color Blindness, Indigenous Loss & Grief Ceremonies, Privilege & Diversity, Thinking Traps, Tools for Connecting Online & I Love Sunflowers.

 

What participants can expect:

  • A dynamic online adaptation of our in-person Communications Training for new participants.
  • A mix of instructor-driven sessions through Zoom and self-paced sessions offered through an online E-learning platform.
  • Three live weekly three hour facilitated sessions with PLDI Trainers.

The mixed format allows participants flexibility to learn at their own pace to identify and develop their leadership, communication, and resilience skills, all while connecting with peers in a safe environment and we like to have fun. (Certificate upon completion)

This training is offered at no cost to participants.   (Funding for this program is provided by Public Health Agency of Canada – Community Action Fund)

This training welcomes people living with HIV who have not previously taken PLDI Communications Training and is a professional leadership development opportunity.
