The Health Initiative for Men (HIM), a non-profit society whose main office is located on the unceded territories of the  xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations (Vancouver, BC), seeks a qualified candidate to fill the position of Program Specialist, Substance Use and Contingency Management. The incumbent will be a well-trained mental health professional with a passion for harm reduction, program development, as well as skill and dedication in providing 1-1 and group counselling.

HIM is a non-profit society that aims to strengthen health and well-being in communities of self-identified GBQ (gay, bi and queer) men and gender diverse people in BC. Our vision is to build healthier lives together. We value a comprehensive approach to healthy living; we value our community’s ability to make informed decisions; we value a non-judgmental, sex-positive and strengths-based philosophy; we value scientific research; we value capacity-building and collaboration; we value the role of our communities.

The Program Specialist/Clinician, Substance Use and Contingency Management (the Specialist) is a creative thinker who is grounded in social justice, community level intervention, and can work collaboratively with a group of diverse peers. The Specialist/Clinician must be able to provide safe and ethical counselling, conduct level A & B assessments, articulate group and individual care plans, and monitor client/consumer safety and progress. The Specialist/Clinician should also be familiar with their own methods of intervention. HIM prefers Clinicians who can work within brief models of intervention (CBT, DBT, Narrative, Solution Focused, etc.). HIM recognizes the trust placed in the organization by our community partners and program participants. The position requires flexible, creative and socially conscious program construction and interventions for substance-use care that build upon this trust.

We are looking for a dynamic, and collaborative person who can work in a fast-paced interdisciplinary environment. The Specialist/Clinician will also participate as an engaged member of the team and will have the opportunity to contribute to the achievement of the organization’s strategic plans and will have a voice in decision making alongside their colleagues.
