This means that if you’re absent from decision-making, your interests may be overlooked, and you may become a subject or victim of decisions made by others, often to your disadvantage, as you become the “food” or subject and negatively impacted by their choices.

The next Positive Leadership Development Institute (PLDI) training is on board governance. Learn what a board is and does, and whether this kind of work inspires you. Governance is a module that requires the completion of PLDI Core Leadership Training before you apply.

Don’t miss the opportunity to establish a vision and mission through fun mock board scenarios. The Governance training will explore the following topics through online presentations, group work and discussions in a safe and supportive peer space:

 

·       Is a Board the right fit for me?  (Maybe I could start by participating on a committee)

·       What are Board vs Staff Responsibilities in an organization

·       Explore Board Governance models

·       Board accountability and responsibilities

·       Understanding committee structures and purpose

·       Effective meetings

·       General Financial Responsibilities

·       Understanding potential conflicts of interest

 

This professional certificate development training will be offered online over Zoom. PLDI Trainer-led sessions will be Thursdays: Jan 29, Feb 5 and 12, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM Pacific Time. There will be two engaging self-paced online sessions as well, and work is to be done between Jan 29-Feb 5 and Feb 5-12 on your own time.

Trainings are space-limited and free; candidates go through a peer-led selection process. Each group of participants selected aims to ensure safety and a diversity of experiences and lived experiences.
