Red Road HIV/AIDS Network (RRHAN) and Positive Women’s Network (PWN) are thrilled to announce that the Indigenous Women’s Support position for their joint Holistic Health Awareness Program for Indigenous Women has been filled. Judy Mitchell from North Vancouver, BC will commence with the duties of her new role at PWN’s drop-in centre located at 614–1033 Davie Street, Vancouver on July 1, 2016.
Judy comes from a background in health and social services for Indigenous people. Most recently she was the Family Support Worker for Tla’Amin Community Health in Powell River, BC. Prior to that position she worked as the Aboriginal Patient Navigator for VCH’s Aboriginal Health Strategic Initiatives in Vancouver. From 2005 to 2010 Judy supervised a counselling team at Healing Our Spirit, providing support for Indian Residential School Survivors. Judy is an excellent communicator with a strong professional ethic, and she approaches her work in a caring, confident and flexible manner.
Among her responsibilities as the Indigenous Women’s Support Worker, Judy will provide advocacy to clients by speaking on their behalf in settings that include the justice system, hospitals, other medical environments, social service agencies and the community. She will also provide supportive guidance to those infected or affected by blood borne pathogens by making relevant referrals to other organizations and agencies.
