This webinar in the PAN Presents webinar series focuses on research and evaluation of overdose prevention sites. Mary Clare Kennedy, PhD and Michelle Olding, MPH of the BC Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU) and the University of British Columbia present research examining benefits and challenges of overdose prevention sites, including studies examining health impacts of these services and the production of burnout among overdose response workers with lived experience. Mary Clare Kennedy is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at UBC Okanagan and a Research Scientist at the BC Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU). Dr. Kennedy’s research draws on quantitative and qualitative research methods to examine social-structural dimensions of health among people who use drugs and the implementation and effectiveness of novel harm reduction interventions, including safe supply programs and innovations in the delivery of supervised consumption services. Michelle Olding, MPH, is a Research Assistant with the BC Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU) and a doctoral student at UBC. Her dissertation research uses ethnographic methods to investigate how socio-legal dynamics are shaping the implementation, operation and effectiveness of overdose prevention interventions. Prior to her studies at UBC, Michelle served as a project coordinator at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS.
