About the Projects
The Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) has been funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) for the project: “Engaging Community to Scale and Evaluate Stigma Reduction Interventions”. CPHA has also received a community-based research grant (funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research) titled “Bridging lived/living and clinical expertise to address intersectional STBBI stigma: Validating a collaboratively developed experiential eLearning intervention”.
PHAC Project: Funded from April 2022 to March 31, 2027, through the HIV and Hepatitis C Community Action Fund, the “Engaging Community to Scale and Evaluate Stigma Reduction Interventions” project will collaborate with people with lived experience, professionals and researchers to scale and evaluate interventions focused on the reduction of sexuality, substance use and sexually transmitted and bloodborne infections (STBBI) stigma. Specifically, CPHA will support professionals and organizations from across Canada to implement and evaluate professional development for health and social service professionals in their respective communities, and to facilitate structural change within select organizations using an organizational assessment tool. It is anticipated that this project will contribute to increasing health and social service professionals’ knowledge of stigma, their knowledge of the intersections between STBBI stigma and other forms of oppression, and their capacity to address stigma. By employing an intervention research framework, this project will also lead to a better understanding of the core components of effective stigma reduction interventions.
CIHR Project: This research project is focused on evaluating CPHA’s online course, Provide safer, more inclusive care for STBBI, as an intervention for intersectional HIV/STBBI stigma amongst medicine, nursing and social work students in Canada. Ultimately, this project will support CPHA’s efforts to better understand the short and longer-term impacts of the online course, and to engage communities impacted by intersectional HIV/STBBI stigma to inform and co-lead intervention research efforts meant to capture the course’s contributions to improved service delivery.
